I have over twenty years experience as a freelance tutor at all levels and abilities from eight to eighty usually teaching various jewellery making techniques, felt making and papier mache. Over the last few years I have been a mentor to students attending the Craft Angels Network scheme run by Model House, passing on my teaching skills to graduates wanting to work in community arts - I also delivered the business skills workshops for the scheme. Recently, I have become a Dynamo Role Model, a WAG funded scheme promoting entrepreneurship to young people. I endeavour to enable students to create to a professional standard and to complete projects that will give confidence and perhaps spark further interest and new adventures. I enjoys the bonding experience that occurs when people are working creatively in a group which is often absent in isolated practice.

'Eco Colour Workshop with Claire Cawte' at Model House Craft and Design Centre, Llantrisant
Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September, 2010, 10.30am - 4.30pm

Discover the colour that comes from plants to dye fabric the eco-way. Simmering fibres in water can create a rich liquid which can give wonderful effects, subtle or dramatic.
This course will introduce you to experimenting with plants to create colour and pattern on fabric. Whilst it is a two day course you have the option of participating in either one or both of the workshop days. On the first day you can explore colour in order to gain an understanding of the natural plant dye. The second day is more experimental with shibori and eco-print methods which are also perfectly suited to the felt maker.

'Thermofax Screen Printing with Lyn Griffiths' at Model House Craft and Design Centre, Llantrisant

his course with experienced tutor Lyn Griffiths offers you an opportunity to combine fabric and felt with dyeing and print in a variety of ways.
A great weekend of mixed media exploration, thermofax screen printing with natural dye extracts and a variety of feltmaking techniques.
The thermofax method allows for very fine detail and precision creating really exciting results without the difficulties normally attached to other methods of screen printing. Bring photos or drawing of your choice and make them quickly and easily into printing screens.You will go home with a collection of A4 screens that are easy to use again and again. A chance to expand your feltmaking in a new direction! Screens cost £7 but you may use the tutorıs screens if you prefer.

'Felt Hats' at Craft in the Bay, Cardiff Bay
Saturday 2nd October, 2010, 10.30am - 4.30pm
Cost: £45
Make an original felt hat from merino fleece. You will learn how to shape and block hats using formers. You will create a unique hat for either a special occasion or everyday wear.
No prior experience is necessary and all materials and equipment will be provided.
It would be helpful to bring along any sketches or images of designs you would like to make.

'Aluminium Jewellery' at Craft in the Bay, Cardiff Bay
Saturday 23rd October, 2010, 10.30am - 4.30pm

Join Mandy to design and make your own jewellery from aluminium. You'll learn how to colour the pre-anodised aluminium then cut and shape it to create a piece of beautiful jewellery.
No prior experience is necessary and all materials and equipment will be provided, however, if you have previous experience in jewellery making, you may benefit from bringing along your toolbox.
You may also like to bring along any sketches or images of designs you would like to make.

'Felt Pictures' at Model House Craft and Design Centre, Llantrisant

Learn how to draw with fibres to create a beautiful felt picture, which you could later frame or stitch into by hand or machine. All materials and equipment will be provided but please do bring a photo or drawing for inspiration.

'Make a Felt Cowl' at Model House Craft and Design Centre, Llantrisant

Learn how to make a luxurious silk and wool cowl to keep you stylishly warm this winter, This garment is wonderfully soft and light and very easy to wear. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience in felt making.
